Students who have come to our country for educational purposes and whose visa or exemption period is not sufficient are required to obtain a student residence permit or a student residence permit, in accordance with the purpose of their stay.
Except for those who are exempt from student residence permit, foreigners who will stay in Turkey for more than 90 days or the period determined by their visa or visa exemption are required to obtain a residence permit.
WHO IS GIVEN STUDENT RESIDENCE PERMIT?
A student residence permit is given to foreigners who will receive an education at an associate, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral level in a higher education institution in Turkey.
Foreigners who will receive education in a primary and secondary education institution, whose care and all expenses will be covered by a real or legal person, may be granted leave and extended for a period of 1 year during their education with the consent of their parents or legal representatives.
Having a student residence permit does not entitle the student’s parents or other relatives to obtain a residence permit.
If the education period is less than one year, the duration of the student residence permit cannot exceed the education period.
Foreigners who will come and receive education in our country through various public institutions and organizations can be granted a student residence permit during their education.

REJECTION, CANCELLATION OR NON-EXTENSION OF STUDENT RESIDENCE PERMIT APPLICATION

- If the conditions for this permit are not fulfilled or disappear,
- If there is some evidence that learning cannot be sustained,
- If there is evidence that the student residence permit has been used for purposes other than the one for which it was issued,

In order to apply for a student residence permit, a foreign citizen must have a formal education record in an institution affiliated to the Higher Education Institution or the Ministry of National Education. This registration will be declared and a residence permit application will be made.
What are the conditions for getting education in Turkey?
The first thing that foreign students who want to study in Turkey should do is to take the Foreign Student Exam if they are going to study in a public school. This exam is opened once a year and it is necessary to register individually for each school’s exam. With this exam, your competencies in both language, science and social sciences are tested and used as an evaluation criterion for the department you want to apply for. The criteria of the department you will apply to are specific to itself and it is not possible to evaluate the student only with the Foreign Student Exam score.
Whether it is to enroll in higher degree programs such as associate degree, master’s, doctorate, or in earlier groups such as primary, secondary, high school, a declaration of previous education is required in both. Transcripts are taken from the schools attended and the trainings they have received, the level of success in these trainings and the content are documented. Since this documentation is in a foreign language, notarized sworn translation must be made before being presented to schools in Turkey. These documents and, if any, prior diplomas should be submitted and an application should be made for equivalence evaluation.
What is the equivalence in foreign student applications?
What is meant as equivalence here is to examine whether the graduation can be counted by examining the courses and contents taken in the education here in order to count the previous educations, since the educational content may be different. Here, depending on the content, equivalence can be given, or in order to be considered equivalent, the person can be supported with additional courses and become a graduate and equivalent. This application is determined depending on the content of the department and previous trainings. In order to study in a state institution in Turkey, the Foreign Student Exam condition is required, but this condition is not sought in private schools. Equivalence is required in both conditions.
Can foreign students under the age of 18 study alone in Turkey?
Smaller than an associate degree who wants to study in Turkey; For children of primary, secondary and high school age, it is sufficient to submit an equivalence in the application. In order for these children to be registered for school, their parents must be here legally, if a parent is here or if a relative is documented as a legal guardian and the child will be registered for education here, then this must be documented with a consent letter .
Do I need a visa to come to Turkey to enroll in school?
If the foreign student who wants to apply will take the exam within the time allowed after entering the country with visa exemption, printed visa or e-visa in line with the visa conditions between his country and Turkey, he can complete that process and then register for school. In the next process, a student residence permit application will be made by declaring that he/she should live here as he/she will study in Turkey together with the school registration. Is the student residence permit period granted during the education period?
Student residence permit rights vary depending on the student’s education period. It is renewed every year depending on the general content, and if the education period is less than 1 year, the right to leave is granted for that period. Students often have difficulty in following their residence permit periods, and when they are not followed correctly as a sensitive issue, they can force the process up to the cancellation of school registration. Can I work in Turkey with a student permit?
Student residence permit only allows legal stay in Turkey as students and does not give the right to work. Students can enter and exit their country during their residency, and school attendance is compulsory.
Is it okay if I am absent while I have a student residence permit?
Students who have obtained a student residence permit by declaring that they will stay in the country as a student do not fulfill the school attendance requirement, their student residence permit may be cancelled. Attendance requirements are different within the scope of the regulations of each school, and if these rules are not followed, the student is not accepted as a student in the country. However, the residence permit will also be cancelled.
